Beekeeeping

Slovenia has been considered the cradle of beekeeping. How we work with bees has been exemplary throughout centuries. Bees are closely linked with everything in our life and there is abundance of apiaries in our country. The webinar will touch topics like raising the Queen bee, to honey production all the way to painting the boards of our hives.

Blacksmithing

Would you ever imagine that one can make lace out of iron? Join us and see how it is made.

Gingerbread

What used to be a love letter is now a souvenir. Let’s learn how boys used to show their affection back in the day. Romance is still alive in Slovenia.

Famous artists

It is not only food and drink that we excel at, the richness of out countryside also inspired poets, writers, painters and architects. Get to know a few of our favourites.

Bobbin lace

All you need for magic to happen are an even number of bobbins, a cushion of sawdust, a thread of linen or cotton and pins. In Slovenia this magic has been happening since 1500s.

Cheese making

Much like in Netherlands cheese has been a staple of Slovenian diets as well. The excess of milk, abundance of pastures and fresh mountain air are a perfect combination for some amazing dairy products. Clever shepherds have introduced to us some unique flavours, smells and textures.

Brandy making

Orchards are a landscape trademark of Slovenia. If fruit is not eaten, we do not throw it away, we rather put it in a wooden barrel, let it ferment and then as the winter comes and we have nothing else to do, we cook a brandy out of it. takes a lot of time ad effort, but it is worth it and it will keep us warm in the winter as well.

Woodenware

There was a time when one could not purchase forks and spoons in a supermarket. So the only solution was to make them yourself. And once at it, why not make an art out of it. In the SE part of Slovenia, mostly in the town of Ribnica, beech wood was used to make some artisan cutlery that we still use today.

Salt

Would you ever imagine that a small place like Slovenia with 46 km of a coastline would provide salt for the Venetian Republic. Dating back to 13th century the salt pans are among the oldest in Europe and still functioning. Today you can still taste what the nobility of Venice tasted back in the day. Are you curious about it?

Most famous brands of Slovenia

Elan skis, Alpina sports footwear, Rogaška glassworks, Gorenje kitchen appliances, Adria-mobil mobile homes, Pipstrel ultralight airplanes, Akrapovič automotive and motorbike sport exhausts, Radenska mineral water. Do you know any of them? Well now you will.
